Job Description
BACKGROUND SUMMARY:
In Health, the IRC is working closely with other health agencies in refugee camps on the Western side of the country to support the scale up of sexual and reproductive health (SRH), including family planning and comprehensive post abortion care services as well as mental health and psychosocial support (MHPSS) services across all three camps (Nyarugusu, Nduta and Mtendeli). The IRC also supports the host community to improve adolescent sexual reproductive health including menstrual hygiene management through partnership with the ministries of health and education and currently in partnership with World Health Organization (WHO), Global Women’s Institute (GWI) and Innovations for Poverty Action (IPA), is conducting research on intimate partner violence in a refugee camp of Nyarugusu in Tanzania.
This research aims to address the feasibility and acceptability of a brief empowerment counselling intervention (ECI) among pregnant women and girls receiving antenatal care (ANC) who have experienced intimate partner violence (IPV), in humanitarian healthcare settings.
Scope of work
- To support MTI health staff in provision of ANC services along with participating in provision of health care among women experiencing intimate partner violence (IPV) and he/she will work with other health staff in providing quality reproductive and child health services targeting averting ill health associated with intimate violence partners (IPV)
Job description
- He/she will be responsible with the following
- Provide quality ANC services in line with Ministry of Health guidelines and UNCHCR
- Be able to provide health education to pregnant women and their families in relation to pregnancy, childbearing, and childcare
- Be able and competent to seek and administer informed consent to the study participants
- Be able to administer quantitative/qualitative research questionnaires to study participants
- Provide emotional support and guidance to pregnant women throughout the pregnancy journey
- Monitoring and administering medication, injections, and intravenous infusions during labour
- Identifying high-risk pregnancies and advise them accordingly
- And other responsibilities will be assigned by the supervisor/Manager

Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree/ Diploma from an accredited School of Nursing and Midwifery With valid registration license from Tanzania Nurses and midwifery Council
- Working experience with refugee is an added advantage
- Experience in conducting intervention research is an added advantage
- 2-year work experience in provision of ANC services and other reproductive health services is strongly desirable
- Computer skills: knowledge of MS Word; Excel and Outlook required.
- Swahili and good English written, and oral skills required. French and Kirundi is an added advantage.
